One day a woman wished a little baby ,but she couldn`t have this wish. The fairy said that she couldn`t have it, but she could put a barleycorn on the field and let it grow, giving her the baby.
After a long time the barleycorn grown on the field and there was a pretty little baby, that got the name of Thumbelina, because she was really small, like a thumb.
Someday, the baby was sleeping, when a bad toad entered trough the window and got the baby. He took the baby to his house and stayed with her.
The time passed and the little Tiny got bigger and older. During the summer, an field-mouse took her and again stayed with her.
Now, bigger than before, she met the field-mouse´s neighbor. The field-mouse said that his neighbor was really reach and she could marry him. After she met the neighbor, that was a mole, she went with him to his house, to stay a few days.
During the days, they were walking and they saw a dead swallow making the little Tiny sad. At night, she couldn`t sleep, thinking about the bird, so she woke up and wove a carpet to warm the dead bird. She slept on the bird`s body and realized that it wasn`t dead. She nursed him and gave food.
After a time, the bird was strong again and asked her if she want to come with him, but she couldn´t let the field-mouse alone.
At home she talked with the mouse, who wanted that the little Tiny marry with the mole. Desperate, she said that she wont marry him and gone away. Walking sadly, she met the bird that she saved the life. He asked again if she want to live with him, but now she accepted.
At the bird`s house, the bird said that she could get one of the flowers to sleep. After she chase the flower, she looked into it, where were a beautiful little man, like her, that asked her if she want to marry him. She accepted and married him, becoming happy forever.

The message behind the story is an important message for life, because it tell that our dreams, sometimes, can't became true, like Thumbelina's mother, who wished a daughter and lost her after she was born.The second message is that not everybody is a good person, because some people can be your friend just for their own interest.

Os contos de fadas são muito importantes porque ajudam no amadurecimento das crianças, nos contos elas encontram um outro mundo cheio de aventuras, pois atendem aos apelos dos seres humanos, sempre tendo um final feliz. Tem um pensamento cheio de esperanças, resolvendo problemas que parecem não ter solução, dando ânimo para as crianças enfrentarem problemas do dia-a-dia.

This story about the 13 years old boy that had everything to be a marginal and based on his friends’ comments, there wasn’t way out of the situation considering the fact that he was unlettered. But a person helped him to find out real life’s horizon and to forget his past.This is related to Thumbelina’s story because she was stolen from her parents and taken away from home. She was accepted by a camp rat and she was forced to marry his neighbour. So Thumbelina ran away and was accepted by a bird that treated her with kindness and gave her love, being a great family. Both stories have a happy ending.ACTIVITY 5

We agree with the group's interpretation. We think that the message that the tale gives us is that we should never give up, and that we should keep strong (as they said, the princess was patient and optimistic).
Also, the tale says that it doesn't matter if life is tough, you just have to keep strong and things will work out. We think we should take that to our lives!
